The Atlanta Braves just got its balance back, and now the New York Mets again?
After starting the year out with three-straight losses to the Mets, Atlanta finally got its balance back with a five game winning streak to get to .500 for the first time this season. That also happens to be just one game shy of its longest winning streak in all of 2011.
All that hard work, and now the Mets are flying into Turner Field in hopes to knock the Braves off track yet again. Atlanta was 4-5 at home against New York last season.
The home team will send out Tommy Hanson, where he makes the Braves a 1 1/2 run favorite on Monday, according to Bovada’s MLB Betting Odds. Hanson’s velocity has been down so far this year, but handled the Mets in his first start of the season. He went five innings without allowing a run, but took a no-decision in the 1-0 loss. He only went five innings against the Houston Astros last week, but won.
That carried Atlanta into a good series over the weekend, when they breezed past the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game sweep. Chipper Jones has enjoyed a fantastic start in his final season, continuing with a three-run go-ahead bomb on Sunday.
The Mets, meanwhile, are only a game out of first place in the NL East behind the Washington Nationals. They won a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend thanks in part to David Wright’s torrid start. He had a pair of hits on Sunday to raise his season average to .571, despite a broken pinky finger. Bovada’s MLB Player Props page projects Wright to have more total hits, runs and RBI than Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman on Monday, with a -105 payout.
Wright, however, has a miserable track record against Hanson, hitting just .150 lifetime with eight strikeouts. He’s a .250 hitter at Turner Field, lowest at any National League park.
New York’s starter Dillon Gee is 2-2 lifetime against the Braves with an ERA just over 3 in seven starts. He led the Mets in wins last year (13) but racked up a 5.74 ERA on the road.
