Los Angeles Angels vs. Tampa Bay Rays Betting Odds For April 25, 2012

The Los Angeles Angels made a big splash this off-season, acquiring top free agents C.J. Wilson and Albert Pujols.

Only one of them is playing like an All-Star right now.
Wilson looks to continue his impressive run to start the season, taking the mound against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday night.

Wilson has won two of his first three starts with an ERA below 2.40. He’s had trouble against Tampa Bay, most recently in Game 1 of the ALDS last year. But his track record at Tropicana Field is good, going 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA in 22 innings, while holding the Rays to a .141 batting average.

Pujols, meanwhile, hasn’t started so well. The All-Star is in the middle of the worst streak of his career, currently 0 for his last 16, and hasn’t hit a home run yet. The 34-year old slugger is hitting .232 on the year with just four RBI and is on pace for his lowest single season home run total of his career. No one expects Pujols to fall off the map completely, but his first three weeks have been troubling, and part of the reason Los Angeles is 6-11, looking way up at the Texas Rangers.

“I don’t concentrate on individual numbers, I concentrate more as a team,” Pujols told the Associated Press. “I think we’ve got a better ballclub than what we’ve been showing. It seems like everybody in the lineup is struggling.

“I’m not trying to go out there to try to do too much. I’ve been in this situation before. It’s part of the game. You can’t let it into your head. You just need to keep fighting and knowing it’s a long season.”

He’ll try to turn things around against Tampa Bay’s Jeremy Hellickson, who is 2-0 despite not having his best stuff. He threw 106 pitches over 5 2/3 innings last Thursday but got nine runs of support in a win against the Toronto Blue Jays.

“Overall not bad,” manager Joe Madden told the AP. “But still not as sharp as he can be.”

Desmond Jennings has been on a tear lately, hitting three homers in his last five games with six RBI.

Bovada is favoring the Angels by 1 1/2 runs with a -115 moneyline.
