The Boston Red Sox appear to have some real issues getting over the hump, and it won’t get any easier tonight. The Sox will have their sixth chance at getting over .500 on Tuesday night, but will have to do it against reigning Cy Young winner Justin Verlander.
Verlander is once again the top pitcher in the American League, leading all hurlers with 75 strikeouts, a 2.15 ERA and 0.81 WHIP. He lost just his second game last week when a lack of run support ruined his seven-strikeout day. That’s been the M.O. for the Tigers lately, sitting at 23-25, third in the AL Central. Philip Humber may have built a good reputation after he threw the first perfect game of the season, but that might be confusing bettors. As a general rule, when Humber starts at home, shy away from the White Sox.
The Cleveland Indians jumped out to the AL Central lead with a great April, but few have really bought into them remaining there through September. As long as they keep fighting off the Detroit Tigers like they did last night, though, we might have to reconsider.
Well that didn’t work out too well.

The Los Angeles Angels’ road trip started well with a win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday. But a lack of timely hitting put a quick halt to that. The Angels went 1 for 21 with runners in scoring position over their next two games against San Diego, losing both.
The St. Louis Cardinals could really use a little Jaime Garcia right now.
